I’ll admit it—I’m usually skeptical of sequels or prequels to major series. But wow. Suzanne Collins nailed it. “Sunrise on the Reaping” weaves in characters we already know and love while giving us a deeper look into their stories. It also introduces a few new faces who I quickly became invested in. This one earns a solid 5 stars from me, and I’m so glad I gave it a chance.

If you didn’t already know—I’m a longtime fan of the Morbid true crime podcast. So when one of the hosts, Alaina Urquhart, dropped a novel? I had to read it. The Butcher and the Wren is dark, suspenseful, and full of chilling twists. It was the perfect break from my usual light romance reads. And bonus—it’s the start of a series! There’s a sequel, so if you love getting attached to characters and diving into ongoing storylines, you’ll definitely want to start here.
